They need to ban the use of cell phones, including hands-free by the driver, PERIOD... I was in the AT&T Wireless store today and they are selling more touch screen phones than ever before and that is going to make things more dangerous. I have a popular touch-screen smartphone and it can be difficult to operate without looking at it. The older push button phones are safer for driving because you can use touch kinesthetics to operate the phone without looking at it, but touch screen phones can be deadly behind the wheel because you have to look at them to dial them or operate them. And at the AT&T Wireless store, they have more touch screen phones than push button phones so that will make the roads even more dangerous. Texting and driving is like having a 6-pack and then driving. They need to make it illegal to operate any handheld electronic device by the driver and this should include iPods, GPS units, Cell Phones, and PDAs. And they should make it a primary infraction and any driver who is on the phone causing an accident should automatically be 100% at fault, regardless. There will probably be a day when Texting and Driving will cause more accidents than Drunk Driving.
