Shop around using agents from various insurers. Go to the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas website, www.iiat.org , to find an independent agent. Seek an agent that represents numerous insurers.

Ask for a list of all discounts available, especially when using one insurer for home and auto. Alarm systems, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and deadbolt locks may add to your discounts. Ask about the cheapest plan offered.
